Lab access basics: How to start a lab and launch VMs

Modified on Fri, 19 Jun at 10:15 AM

When you start a lab from the Fortinet Training Institute portal, you connect directly to our lab environment from your browser using your training account.

  1.  Select and click the lab. The lab opens in a new window, so ensure that your browser doesn’t block pop-ups. Fortinet strongly recommends using Google Chrome, see:  What are the web browser recommendations?
  2. To start the lab, click Start.
  3. A Start Session window will appear. Review the details provided, then click Start when you are ready to begin the lab. Note: Once you start a lab session, you can’t pause or stop it.
  4. The left panel displays several virtual machines (VMs) that you will use during the lab exercises.
  5. To end your lab session, click Stop or in the LAB drop-down list, click Stop session.
  6. The Stop Session window will appear. Review the details, then confirm whether you want to end the lab and click Stop. Note: After stopping a lab session, you will lose access and cannot return to the same lab later.

Review the Lab Information and Resources webpage to help you to understand the terminology used in the lab guide, exercises, and lab. Virtual Lab Basics explains in detail the process to start the lab.

For any support or assistance if you cannot start the lab, submit a ticket to contact the Fortinet Training Institute support team and include screenshots of the error messages.  A Fortinet Training Institute representative will contact you shortly.
